JDR Cables are currently seeking a Senior Development Engineer in our Renewable development team to develop and transfer new products and technology to the rest of the business; taking ownership of development programmes whilst managing and delivering them on schedule including any third party testing.
Reporting into the Principal Engineer, Power Cables (R&D)
The main responsibilities of the role include:
- Research and develop new technologies and suppliers as part of specific allocated Product Development Programmes to meet JDR identified product requirements as well as meeting customer requirements and relevant international standards.
- Project Management of Product Development and Product Qualification Projects, including budgets, schedules and project management of both external and in-house functions (such as procurement, scheduling, manufacturing, termination and test) to ensure that quality, cost control and project schedules are maintained.
- Produce documents such as design specifications, drawings, technical reports, test procedures, purchasing Specifications and Qualification/Type Test Specifications and reports, Visual ERP documents, whilst ensuring a high level of accuracy is present in all documents. Checking and approval of such documents, subject to competence, is also expected as part of the daily activities.
- Engage with suppliers, customers and third parties, using NDAs as applicable, in bringing appropriate new technology, new materials and new suppliers into JDR, whilst maximising JDR’s protection of IPR
- Provide technical support for the Marketing, Sales, Tendering, Supply Chain, Design and Production departments.
- Responsible for employee relations in conjunction with HR and the Principal Engineer to ensure overall team performance and the implementation of company initiatives including the supporting of PDP’s and training needs analysis.
- Represent JDR at external technical events (e.g. Cigre working group representation, technical conference and seminar presentations) to continually strive to be regarded as a thought leader within the industry.
- Transfer new product developments, once qualified, into the wider business workflows, including but not limited to: Engineering, Production, Quality, Sales and Purchasing departments.
- Input to the Design Manual, defining the rules and process by which projects are engineered.
Degree qualified within an engineering subject you will have the ability to address technical issues from first principles with the courage and self-confidence to be able to challenge existing practices where required. Working with a wide range of external and internal stakeholders such as test houses, suppliers and clients, as well as internal parties such as sales, proposals, purchasing, scheduling, engineering production and test so the ability to communicate openly and well is important, including the ability to involve others effectively in creative problem solving.
As Senior Development Engineer you will provide line management responsibility for Development Engineers as well as Graduates and Apprentices on rotation so experience or a desire to lead, coach and mentor is a must for this role.
