As JDR's exciting expansion into Cambois, Blyth continues to gain momentum, we are recruiting a Plant Manager to be accountable and responsible for our new state of the art facility.
Based at the new facility from the outset and gearing up for the installation and commissioning phases, there will also be a requirement to spend some time at our Hartlepool site to gain an understanding of our businesses processes and procedures. The Plant Manager will contribute to the shaping of our new facility by playing a key role in recruiting, motivating and leading the manufacturing team to be ready for when we become operational.
Working collaboratively across the operational team in the UK you will work with the UK Operations Director to drive the development of the strategic direction of the facility and manage agreed Capex investments to deliver on time and within budget to maximise profit.
With a strong background in the leadership and management of a large facility you will be responsible for the following:
- Motivate and lead the manufacturing team to work in an efficient manner, where safety and quality are paramount. Instilling a robust Health & Safety culture within the factory, with adherence to company and legislative procedures and standards.
- To communicate and liaise with departmental managers across the business to promote lean initiatives within manufacturing identifying efficiency, quality and cost saving improvements to ensure continuous business improvement. Ensuring that the quality of work provided by manufacturing is to the highest standard, following good engineering practices at all times.
- Oversee and support, where necessary, employee relations across the manufacturing facilities in conjunction with HR and the Head of UK Manufacturing to ensure overall team performance and the implementation of company initiatives including the completion of PDP’s for direct reports and identifying training needs/ development through analytical review.
- Ensure that communication between manufacturing management and other departments is effective, thus maintaining a high degree of teamwork and interdepartmental collaboration to drive efficiency.
- Liaising with other departments (internal and Third Parties) to jointly ensure that the manufacturing and operational teams can achieve the timely delivery of JDR’s services and products.
- Oversee and support where necessary customer visits as appropriate and carry out factory tours to ensure the client has a safe and positive experience so as to reflect well on JDR’s quality and safety cultures as well as the high standard of work undertaken.
- Give timely feedback to cost estimating/planning where manufacturing rules have/are being changed for cost reduction and efficiency improvements on machines and materials.
- Generate monthly reports on budget adherence of the facility cost codes including a forecast for the fiscal year of the closing position and if these forecasts exceed budget, provide mitigating actions to achieve budget or a business case for approval to demonstrate the on-cost.
- Constantly monitor the facility organisational structure and resource levels to ensure it is positioned correctly to meet business demands
- Engage in the yearly preparation of annual budgets for the facility so that agreement on the forecast spend is correct and attainable prior to board submittal and sign off.
- Be responsible for the overall security planning of the facility to help prevent loss of equipment and materials so that business continuity is maintained at all times.
- Work directly with the port authority to maintain a good working relationship and be integral to the negotiation of future space, infrastructure and storage requirements.
With a strong desire to succeed you will have the drive and determination to deliver on time through measurable KPI’s and budgetary controls whilst working collaboratively across the facility, defining the goals and objectives of the function giving clear direction to each department enabling a clear understanding and expectation of what is required.
Ideally degree qualified, with experience of opening a new manufacturing facility being advantageous, you will have the ability to communicate at all levels with a willingness to learn and follow set procedures ensuring the manufacture, termination and delivery of our sub-sea cables and umbilical’s.
